Luca Jay’s Play Table

Photography by Daphne & Art Carlyle

I made a children’s play table for my granddaughter Luca Jay for Christmas in 2020. Unfortunately, due to Covid travel restrictions we haven’t been able to give it to her yet. Hopefully soon, I’m looking forward to playing with her at this table!

The table top is a solid live-edge Western Maple slab cut from a tree that grew on Vancouver Island. The table top is 24” x 36” and the table is adjustable in height from 17” to 25” (it’s set at 17” in these photos). I also made two stools that are 10” high with Maple seats. The legs of the table and the stools are finished in “Barn Red” milk paint from the Old Fashioned Milk Paint Co. I mounted a 200’ roll of 18” wide paper under the table top. When you pull the paper out, it gets held in place with two magnetic sticks that fit under the front and back edges of the table top.
