Wall Mount Entertainment Cabinets
I have made several wall-mount entertainment cabinets which are designed to hold Cable TV boxes, DVD players, Apple TV’s and other audiovisual equipment like that. The first cabinet was a prototype, made from Baltic Birch plywood and we used it at the cottage for many years. Later on, I made a couple more cabinets, one in English Brown Oak, and one in Narra and we still use them in our home.
The cabinets mount on the wall using a french cleat which is hidden from view behind the cabinet. All of the wiring, including HDMI cables, power cords, power bars, etc., is hidden inside the lower compartment in the cabinet behind a removable panel. In the first prototype cabinet shown below, even the power outlet on the wall is hidden behind/inside the cabinet, so the power cord running from the power bar to the AC outlet on the wall is hidden.
Ideally, the HDMI cables running from the cabinet to the TV would be run inside a conduit hidden in the wall. In the location where the prototype cabinet was mounted, that was not an option, so there are three HDMI cables and a power cord running from a slot in the top of the cabinet up to the flat-screen TV mounted on the wall above. Even with these cables being visible, the whole setup has a very neat and clean appearance.
