Walnut Pentagon Cabinet

I made this wedding present for my niece Chelsea and her husband Stephen in 2025.

The cabinet features two doors which have pentagonal tiling using Claro Walnut type 13 pentagons. The pentagons were made using shop-sawn veneers that I cut from a nicely figured plank of Claro Walnut that I had been saving for something special. The inside of the cabinet, including the two doors, is curly maple from a tree that grew on Vancouver Island.

This cabinet features some of my “standard” design details:

  • Raised lip on the top back edge.
  • Custom door pulls carved from Ebony.
  • The cabinet “floats” above the stand.

Wikipedia has a good article about type 13 pentagons.
